KonMari Your Life and Mind Not Just Your Closet (Here's How) 💃💫

About 3.5 years ago, 1 month before my mom passed away, I serendipitously discovered the book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo.

Once I heard her method included organizing things into piles that bring you joy and those that don't, I knew I had to get a copy. 

This is something I had been recommending my coaching clients do for years. I just didn't say it as eloquently as Marie Kondo does lol. 

I read the book because I was interested in Marie's methodology. What I didn't know was that this book would help me tremendously when I lost my beautiful mother.

Just one month later, my sister and I found ourselves going through, and having to donate, most of our Mom's things after she passed away. 

Reading this book gave me the clarity and strength I needed to understand that my beloved mother did not live in her things. I would always have her memory no matter how many of her things I donated.

I was able to objectively ask myself, does this bring me joy? And if the answer was no, I put it in the donate pile. 

Ever since then, it's become one of my favorite books, for more reasons that one, as you'll soon see.

Marie Kondo now has a Netflix series that is taking the world by storm! I have even seen articles saying that places like GoodWill have been receiving an overflow of donations ever since the series aired! 

This got me thinking, what if people jumped on the bandwagon of ridding their mind and lives of the people, places, things, ideas, beliefs, thoughts, and self-talk that don't bring them joy with as much gusto as they do their closets?

This is actually a topic I have wanted to write about for years but I've been putting it off because it seemed so hard to articulate. 

As a matter of fact, in the middle of writing this blog, I realized that I just can't do it! lol. So instead, I got on camera and made a video so I could explain my thoughts about this to you verbally.

This is also when the subconscious mind goes into overdrive telling them ALL the reasons why their dream life isn’t possible, why there’s no way they’ll succeed, and why they should give up.

Achieve Your Goals Using Meditation (A How To Guide) 💫 🙏

Meditation is something I think most people have heard of and have maybe even tried once or twice… but then quickly gave up. 

Here the thing, I totally get it. It took me YEARS to understand how powerful meditation is for my life and achieving my goals.

(It is so powerful in fact, I do intuitively guided meditations for my clients live in every session tailored to their particular wants and needs. I also give them MP3 audio meditations to listen to in between sessions too.) 

The reason it took me so long to realize this is because it seemed soooooo hard. Like completely impossible for me to do.

Back then, every time I would try to meditate, within 5 minutes I’d start thinking...

“What is the point of this? My mind keeps racing! Clearing my mind is impossible. This works for other people but it just doesn’t work for me.” 

Man, was I wrong!

I now realize that back then I expected to be able to go from never meditating in my life to meditating like the Dalai Lama in 2.2 seconds. It simply doesn't work that way. 

Meditation is called a practice because it takes practice. You’d never sit at a piano and expect to play like Mozart if you’d never taken a lesson in your life right? 

Then why do we do this with meditation?

The Truth About Meditating
The neurology in your brain is very much like a muscle. The more and more and more you pump it the bigger, thicker, and stronger it becomes. 

When you meditate you are pumping your neurology just like you would your biceps in the gym. Every single time you do a “repetition” you strengthen your ability to quiet the mind, focus on your goals, reduce your stress, and increase your motivation. 

The most important thing to remember when you want to use meditation to reach your goals is the muscle analogy. You can’t do crunches once and expect a 6 pack right? 

Same with meditation. 

You can’t expect to do it once, then reach all of your goals, and become a powerful manifestor. The more and more and more you do it the more powerful it becomes and the easier it is to achieve your goals. 

How to Start Meditating
You wouldn't go from never running a day in your life on a Monday to running a marathon on a Tuesday right? Instead, you’d create a training plan and incrementally increase your mileage as your body began to get stronger and stronger. 

This is exactly the same way you should start implementing a meditation practice. Bit by bit. 

Below I have created a “How To” Guide to help you easily start a meditation practice in your life. 

Your Meditation Guide

  • Sit in a comfortable position, either on the floor in a chair.

  • If it is comfortable for you, place your hands on your lap with your palms facing up (this is a receptive position telling the universe you are ready to receive.) If this isn’t comfortable, place them wherever feels best for you.

  • Set an intention for your practice, this can be:

    • A prayer.

    • Asking to receive clarity around action steps.

    • Intending to create calm and peace in your heart and life.

    • Allowing the day to flow with ease and grace.

  • Close your eyes begin to focus on your breath, in through your nose, and out through your mouth. (allowing yourself to feel more and more relaxed with each and every breath.

  • When your mind wanders (and it will!) gently guide your attention back to the present moment and onto your breath. (You may have to do this many, many, many times but that is okay. Remember you are still in training. Clearing the mind only gets easier with practice.)

  • Do this practice for 6 to 7 minutes every day. (Everyone has 6 or 7 minutes right?)

After 2 Weeks, Introduce Your Goals

  • After about two weeks, extend your meditation time to 15 minutes and start to include a 5 minute period where you visualize your goals as if they have already happened.

  • Picture what you are doing, saying, wearing. Where are you? What action steps did you take to get there? Most importantly, how do you FEEL?

  • After another two weeks, you can try 30 minutes with 10 to 15 minutes spent on visualization.

  • If you miss a day, no need to beat yourself up. Just simply resume your practice the following day.

Through this meditation practice, you will develop the ability to stay motivated and locked on to your goals like you never have before. 

Law of Attraction
Having a daily meditation practice focused on achieving your goals is also one of the best ways to become a vibrational match to that which you are wanting to appear in your physical reality.

How the “1 Minute Rule” Changed My Life 💃🙋 >VLOG<

Hey Gorgeous Queen! 

I think it’s safe to say that most of us would love to get more things done every day. But, unfortunately, we can’t increase the number of hours we have.

That means the only way to get more done in the same amount of time is to implement strategies that increase productivity.

I would like to introduce to you to the easiest productivity hack around. It’s called: The One Minute Rule.

I learned this rule from Gretchen Rubin, the author of The Happiness Project and Better than Before. Rubin says: 

“Anything you can do in less than a minute, do without delay.” says Rubin. “So, if you can print out a letter and file it. If you can look at a document and throw it away. If you can put your coat on a hook instead of on the back of a chair. Anything you can do in less than a minute, you just go ahead and do it.”

At first glance, this rule seems silly and like it wouldn’t make much of an impact but the truth is, it can create huge shifts in the amount of tasks you get done in a day.

I decided to do an experiment and implement this rule into my personal life for the last 4 days.

Why the Law of Attraction isn't Working for You (and How to Fix it) 💫 ✨

Hi My Beauty! 

Happy Tuesday! 

If there is anything about me you should know it is this, even though I am a former science based researcher and much of my coaching is based in hardcore, black and white neuroscience, I am also HELLA spiritual. 

I like to describe my coaching as a mixture of science and magic :) The magic part is what we will be focusing on today. 

The Law of Attraction is a subject that most people have heard of but very few know how to properly execute in their lives.

So many times when I meet with new clients they say:

“Stephanie, I learned about the Law of Attraction so I made a vision board, set goals, tried meditating, read a million self-help books, watched The Secret and….. Nothing has happened!” 

And you know what, I completely understand. I have been there soooooo many times in the past. 

There is one main problem getting in the way of people manifesting their dream lives. Here is the truth, the Law of Attraction doesn’t work for about 99% of people because they are out of alignment. 

In a very small nutshell, their conscious mind is not in alignment with their unconscious (or subconscious, I use them interchangeably) mind. 

For the sake of clarity, here are my definitions of the conscious and unconscious mind:

Conscious Mind: This is the logical part of your mind. The part of your mind that you are consciously aware of. What that means is you have to tell this part of your mind what to do. For example, you consciously told your brain to open this email and read it. In other words, it didn’t happen automatically or on autopilot like most of the things we think, believe, and say do. 

Unconscious Mind: This is the part of your mind that runs on autopilot. This is where your beliefs, self-talk, and values live. For example, you do not have to tell yourself, “you know what, today I’d really like to feel stressed and lacking in self-confidence.” We would never consciously tell ourselves something like that but it happens all the time. That is because this is running on autopilot subconsciously as do SO many of the things we do every day. Like showering, brushing our teeth, tieing our shoes, or even driving to work. 

There is so much more (like a lot more) to both of these concepts but these loose definitions will give you a little context to work with for the rest of this article. 

When you align what you do and think consciously (making the vision boards, setting the goals, reading books) with what is running on autopilot subconsciously (Your beliefs about what is actually possible in your life, what you deserve, how worthy you are, and your beliefs about who you are and what you were born to do.) Magic happens. 

When these two parts of your brain are not in sync (which is the case for most people) there is a misalignment in your vibrational energy and, therefore, the Law of Attraction simply cannot and will not work. 

So basically, whatever it is that you want: money, love, a new job, or anything else... it is not enough to write it down, make a vision board, watch youtube videos, read books, meditate, visualize, and wait for it to show up. This is only half the work.

The most important things you can do to create a life that you truly love is to have your conscious mind and the subconscious mind to line up and agree with one another. To have them be in alignment. THIS is the secret sauce. :)

Now you might be wondering, how the heck do I do that?

There are 1,000’s of things you can do to start to create positive shifts in your unconscious mind. Keep reading below to learn 3 simple strategies you can use to manifest more of what you want into your life (and less of what you don’t want!)

#1 Listen to Positive Affirmation Tracks
Listening to positive affirmation tracks is a super easy thing you can do to rewire the thoughts and beliefs that automatically occur in your subconscious mind. Thoughts like “I am not good, enough, smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough... FILL IN THE BLANK enough.” are holding you back from receiving that which you are wanting to appear in your life.  

Listening to positive affirmation tracks allows you to rewrite and replace these beliefs with positive ones, in turn, raising your vibration (which is another topic we will cover in the Mindset By Design for Her Private Facebook Group.)

Here is something you need to be aware of before you begin listening to or practicing positive affirmations. At first, your brain might doubt what you are listening to is true because many of the positive declarations will go directly against what you believe to be true about yourself for 10, 20, 30, even 40 years. The more and more and more you listen the softer your mindset will become and soon the affirmations will become your actual beliefs. CLICK HERE to download a free, 60 minute long, positive affirmations track.

#2 Set Intentions Daily
Two weeks ago we learned how powerful setting daily intentions are in the blog: Feel More Productive in Coffee Shops? Here’s Why (You can read it by clicking here

In this article, we learned that one of the reasons we feel so much more productive at coffee shops is simply because we set the intention for it to be and so that is exactly what happens.

In the book, The Intention Experiment, by Lynne McTaggart,  William A. Tiller, a professor Stanford University states, “For the last 400 years, an unstated assumption of science is that human intention cannot affect what we call physical reality. Our experimental research of the past decade shows that, for today’s world and under the right conditions, this assumption is no longer correct.”

As you can see, intention setting is very powerful and the best part is, it is easy to implement into your daily routine. Set daily intentions about what you will and won’t allow to run on autopilot in your unconscious mind each day. 
 
Below are some examples of intentions you can set for your day:
-Today I will choose to believe that I was put on this earth to receive greatly. 
-Today I will choose to believe that I am self-confident, capable, and worthy. 
-I am ready willing and able to take divinely guided action towards my dreams. 
-Today I will choose to believe I am strong enough, smart enough, and handle adversity well. 
-Today I will choose to believe that obstacles are actually roadblocks veering me in the right direction. 
-Today I will allow it all to be easy.

#3 Hire a Qualified Coach
While the strategies above will 100% provide you with results over time, the absolute quickest way you can change your subconscious mind in order to become a manifesting machine is to hire a highly qualified mindset coach.  I personally prefer to work with coaches who combined both spiritual tactics with science. (Which I am sure doesn't come as a shock to you. lol)

Here is what I can tell you for sure, what took me 10 years to cultivate in my life can happen for you MUCH quicker with the help of a coach. A coach is essentially a like a sherpa or guide who can help you trek up the mountain or through the jungle way more easily because they have been there before. They know the path and can guide you with the right systems, tools, and techniques.

Is Perfectionism Holding You Back From Success? 🙈🙅

Hello Beauty!

Years ago, when I had severe anxiety, was completely broke, lonely, and lost… I held myself back so much because I thought I had to be perfect in order to be worthy. 

I allowed perfectionism to stop me from going after my dreams. I thought I had to be perfectly thin, perfectly dressed, perfectly smart, perfectly skilled, perfectly well-spoken, perfectly *fill in the blank* in order to be successful. 

No wonder I was so scared to move forward! Can you relate? 

You know what's interesting? According to the latest research, perfectionism has been on a steady rise over the last 3 decades. 

Some experts believe this increase is due to the amount of time we now spend on social media looking at people's "highlight reels."

These posts only show people and their families on their best days, with the best angles, best lighting, best outfits, best makeup, best hair, cleanest rooms, and are usually filtered to death. 

Even though most people aren't posting the true reality of their lives, these highlight reel posts are having a negative affect on our mindset and what we believe we need to be, do, and have in order to be worthy. 

Here is the problem with perfectionism. It is holding people back from living their dream lives. 

So, what actually is perfectionism anyway?

The definition of perfectionism is: The refusal to accept any standard short of perfection.

This refusal to accept anything other than perfection can express itself in many ways. You can be highly critical of yourself and, in turn, others too.

This can put a big strain on our relationships. When we place such high standards and expectations on others it can cause them to feel as though they are constantly walking on eggshells.  

Perfectionism can also be caused or reinforced by how you were raised, where you work, who you hang out with most, where you spend your spare time (like Facebook and Instagram), and also your personality. 

Interestingly, people with higher levels of anxiety tend to suffer from perfectionism more so than those who are anxiety free. (Anyone else raising their hand?? lol)

One of the biggest reasons people struggle with perfectionism (and one that is very common in the beautiful women I have the pleasure of coaching is)… Fear of failure. 

This is really a mindset issue. People who have a deep fear of failure view anything less than perfect as a failure, therefore, they avoid taking chances or going after their dreams.

Basically, they hold themselves back from greatness over an unrealistic belief that they have to be perfect in order to be successful.

Perfectionism also causes another nasty habit… procrastination. (Another topic we will be covering in depth in the Mindset By Design for Her private FB Group,click here to join in on the conversation.)

When you feel like you have to be perfect, it can make it really hard for you to want to get started. As a matter of fact, it causes your brain to go into analysis paralysis. 

Luckily, there are a few simple strategies we can implement to stop perfectionism from holding us back from the success we want and deserve.

How to Release Perfectionism for Good in 4 Simple Steps

1. Test it Out
If you have lived most of your life as a perfectionist, transforming into a free-spirited “this is good enough” kind of person overnight isn't realistic. This is why it is smarter to start with baby steps. For example, you can send an email without proofreading it 20 times first. Or you can go to a networking event even if you feel like you don't have the perfect outfit to wear or the perfect thing to say, reminding yourself before each "trial run" that perfection doesn't exist. 

Once you get comfortable dipping your toes in the “this is good enough/I am good enough” water, it will get easier and easier to release your need for perfection more and more and more. 

2. Change Your Perception 
Perfectionists can often hold the bar so high for themselves that is hard to know what “good enough” actually is. If this is you, what you can do is think to yourself, what would I tell my coworker, friend, son/daughter, or loved one about this? Would you call them too fat to speak in front of a crowd? Would you tell them they weren't perfect enough to go after their dreams? Probably not. 

Understanding when it would be “good enough” for someone else can help you to determine whether or not you are starting to fall into perfectionistic tendencies.

3. Set Time Limits 
Perfectionism can cause you to do 2 things:

#1 Procrastinate and do nothing or
#2 Make you take WAY too long to complete things so nothing ever gets done.

I currently provide mindset coaching to a large group of high-level entrepreneurs in the health space. Everyone from chiropractors, naturopaths, doctors, and dietician who are all launching online courses and practices. Some of these practitioners launch in 3 weeks while some are 12 months in and still haven’t launched. 

This is why, every chance I get, I tell the people who are taking longer to put a time limit on all the work they need to do in order to get their program launched. 

For example, if it is taking them a whole day or even a week to complete one exercise that is a red flag that perfectionism is kicking in. When I meet with these clients I always recommend that they give themselves a time limit for each task and that is the same advice I want to give to you. 

4. Schedule Your Perfectionism
For some of us, having a high standard is just in our DNA which, as we now know, can be a hindrance to our success, however, there is are different instances when your high bar can be used in your favor. So for example, if there is a task that is very detail oriented, numbers based, or if you are doing a project for a client, this can be a great time to strategically allow your high standards to shine brightly.

The important part here is that you allow yourself to, at the same time, loosen up on other things and also implement the previous strategies above too. 

DONE > PERFECT
Here is the truth, there is no such thing as perfect. It simply doesn’t exist. So if we keep aiming for perfection we will get stuck staying in the same place, never moving forward. This is why done will always beat perfect every time.

Feel More Productive in Coffee Shops? Here’s why ☕💥

Hi my gorgeous friend! 

I am sitting here at Armature Works in Tampa, sipping on a Yerba Mate tea, typing this blog and thought… 

Have you ever noticed how you feel way more productive and focused when you work from a coffee shop? 

I know I seem to accomplish more in two or three hours at a coffee shop than I do in an entire day working from home.

It's important to point out that I usually drink decaf coffee and tea so it’s not because of the caffeine. 

So if extra caffeine isn't the reason why most people feel more productive and focused at coffee shops then what is it, and more importantly, how can we cultivate the same focus and drive when we are at home or in the office?

Keep reading to learn the 3 key reasons you are so much more productive when you work from a coffee shop and 3 strategies you can use to enhance your productivity no matter where to you are.

1. Your Brain Seeks Out Novelty
The human brain is constantly seeking novelty, in other words, your subconscious mind is always on the lookout for things that are new and exciting. This makes perfect sense when you consider that our DNA and brain are still wired the same as our prehistoric ancestors. These people were hunter-gatherers roaming the earth for 1,000’s years. They were rarely in the same place for more than a few weeks or months. Talk about living a novel life! Life for them was different on a daily basis. Different is what our brain is wired to seek out, so when we don’t have it, our brain gets bored and unmotivated.

Another reason your brain likes new and different things is because when you are presented with something novel, your brain releases the neurotransmitter dopamine AKA the “feel good” chemical. Recent studies show that dopamine doesn't just make you feel good, it is also closely tied to motivation. This explains why getting yourself into a new environment, like a coffee shop, enhances your motivation, creativity, productivity, and happiness. 
 

1a. How To Make This Work For You
Basically, when you get your butt out of the house or out of your usual working space your brain really likes it. You can recreate this by taking your laptop outside or by switching up your workspace. If you work from home, move away from your desk. Sit at the kitchen table, on the couch, in the spare bedroom, or on the patio. If you work in an office, take your laptop outside. If that isn't an option for you, switch up your desk. Move your seat to the other side or buy new pictures and plants to create a new fresh feeling for your brain.


2. Some Routines Reduce Productivity 
As we learned last week some routines can really enhance productivity.  Some routines, however, do the complete opposite. For example, if you get into a routine of getting sucked down the Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter rabbit holes for hours every day instead of doing your work… that is a problem.

Just like unhealthy habits, unhealthy routines are easy to accidentally fall into but they aren’t as easy to stop. Our environment has a lot to do with our daily routines. For example, let’s say you’ve started a daily routine of going down the social media rabbit hole for hours every day and this new habit starts as soon as you sit on the couch or in the breakroom to eat lunch.

Basically this negative scrolling routine has been anchored (an NLP term used when neurology gets connected to a trigger) to your couch or breakroom. This means that the second you take yourself away from your couch or breakroom and into a new environment, like a coffee shop, that set of neurology won't loop and you’ll do work instead of getting sucked into social media.

2a. How To Make This Work For You
So if you have found that you have accidentally developed a negative routine that is draining your productivity you need to first acknowledge you have fallen into a negative routine. Once you admit it is a problem you can start to plan ways to break the pattern (which is really just looping neurology).

You can schedule in a cellphone-free walk, you can book in calls with friends and family, you can set an alarm to give yourself a specific amount of scrolling time before you have to put the phone away. If the routine, habit, or looping negative thoughts you have fallen into have become more than you can handle or break on your own, hire a coach you can trust to help you get you back on track and moving towards your hopes, wishes, and dreams. 

3. Your Intention, That’s What It’s All About
There is yet another reason why we feel so much more productive at coffee shops. It’s because we simply set the intention that we are going to be super productive before we head out. In other words, we make the conscious decision before we leave, “I am going to get a ton of work done today.” and so that is exactly what happens.

In the book, The Intention Experiment, by Lynne McTaggart,  William A. Tiller, a professor Stanford University states, “For the last 400 years, an unstated assumption of science is that human intention cannot affect what we call physical reality. Our experimental research of the past decade shows that, for today’s world and under the right conditions, this assumption is no longer correct.”

3a. How To Make This Work For You
As you can see, intention setting is very powerful and the best part is, it is easy to implement into your daily routine. In the morning, before you start work you can set some intentions for the day. These intentions can be about anything from work, to how you want to feel, to your personal life. Below are some example of some of the intentions I have set for my day in the past: 

  • I will allow today to be easy.

  • I will understand that I am fully supported by the universe/divine/source/spirit.

  • I will choose to understand that everything (even the bad things) are happening in my favor. 

  • I will intentionally smile at strangers. 

  • I will count my blessing and say thank you often

  • I will fully clean out my email inbox today. 

  • I will complete all the forms for my dog's appointments. 

  • I will get half my taxes done today. 

As you can see there are many reasons why we are more productive in coffee shops. Now you have the knowledge you need in order to bring that increase in motivation with you everywhere you go. Pretty cool right?

Too Many Decisions Hurt Your Brain?? Welcome to Decision Fatigue 😓

The second you wake up, the decision making starts…  to press the snooze button or not, what to wear, what to eat, what to pack for lunch, what to pack your kids for lunch… the list goes on and on and on.

Research shows that we make an average of 35,000 decisions every day! Making so many decisions can be exhausting, so exhausting in fact, it has its own name: Decision Fatigue.

This term was created by Roy F. Baumeister, a world-renowned social psychologist and author of, Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength. According to Baumeister, long bouts of decision making tires your brain, in the same way, a long bout of exercise tires your muscles. 

This phenomenon doesn’t just make you tired. Decision fatigue has a negative affect on your self-control, willpower, and productivity which can lead to a slew of negative consequences.

For example, you might get annoyed and lose your temper at a loved one if they ask you a question when you feel decision fatigue. Or you might say “I don’t care, you decide.” when you really should care and be involved in the decision, you just don't have the energy to do so. 

During decision fatigue, your brain might short circuit completely causing you to freeze and make no decision at all. This is sometimes called analysis paralysis. 

Decision fatigue is particularly troublesome in the digital age because we have so much information being thrown at us every second of the day. This means our brain is constantly getting bombarded with information to make decisions on: to click or not to click, to scroll or not to scroll, to buy or not to buy. 

Here’s the good news, there are a few strategies you can use to combat decision fatigue especially during a decision-heavy day.

Here are your 5 strategies, plus one extra for good measure :)

1. Prioritize Quiet Time
Have you ever noticed how your best ideas come when you are brushing your teeth, when you’re in the shower, or while you're on a leisurely walk? That is because these activities take no conscious effort. This means your conscious mind (the thinking/logical part of your brain) can take a break. This allows you to tap into your subconscious mind more easily. 

This is where all your new creative knowledge lives that gets blocked by all the conscious work your mind has to do every day. Taking time to quiet down the conscious mind will work wonders for your stress levels (decision fatigue increases stress) and can actually improve the neurological connections in your brain. This is also why meditation and POSITIVE AFFIRMATION TRACKS can be so powerful. They give your conscious "thinking" mind the break it needs. 

2. Create Habits and Routines to Decrease Decision Making
Ever wonder why geniuses like Steve Jobs, creator of Apple, wore the same black turtleneck, round glasses, and jeans every single day? He didn’t do this just because he really liked black turtlenecks. He did this because it gave his brain extra energy to spend on more important decisions, like building a multi-billion dollar company.  As a matter of fact, Baumeister found that the most successful people in the world combat decision fatigue by developing habits and routines like this. 

You can help combat decision fatigue in your life by creating a calendar of breakfasts, dinners, deciding what to wear to work the night before, and scheduling in quiet time every single day. This will give your brain a break from decision making so it has the energy for important things. 

3. Chunk Your Day
Chunking or batching your work is another way to combat decision fatigue. What this means is to block off specific days and/or times for certain work. For example, you can book in specific times to check your emails every day. You can choose specific days to work on certain tasks like Monday can be an article writing day and Tuesday can be a day you see clients while Friday can be your catch up day. Chunking your work in this way will cut down on the decisions you have to make because every hour of every day you’ll know what you are supposed to be focusing on. 

4. Give Yourself a Deadline
Setting deadlines for your decision making will stop you from going into analysis paralysis which is a huge energy drainer. Generally, the more time you give yourself to make a decision the longer you will spin your wheels. Setting deadlines also gives your brain an intention to focus on which will help you make a decision quicker. (Next week we will learn just how powerful intention setting is so stay tuned next Tuesday for that email.)

5. Make Sure to Bring Snacks
This one might sound funny but it’s actually super important. Not only is your brain’s main fuel source glucose but it has been scientifically proven that hunger can cause people to make impulsive decisions. What’s really interesting is that the hormone ghrelin (which is produced by your stomach when you are hungry) has been shown to decrease impulse control.

Having a healthy snack handy during long meetings or when you know it’s going to be a while until your next meal can give your brain and body the fuel it needs to make decisions more easily causing you less decision fatigue.

Ever Feel Like a Fraud? How to Stop Imposter Syndrome in its Tracks💥🙅

Quick question, when it comes to being a #bossbabe biz owner, an amazing parent, or just living life... have you ever felt like a total FRAUD?

Sort of like, “Who am I to do, x, y, or z?”  or “Why would x, y, z person want to listen to me?”

If you said YES, you are definitely not alone, almost everyone has suffered from “Imposter Syndrome” at some point in their lives. Even super famous and successful people have felt this way before.  

According to the Journal of Behavioral Science, a whopping 70% of people suffer with, what the researchers refer to as, “Imposter Phenomenon."

Even more important to point out is this phenomenon affects women more than men. 

So if feeling like a fraud is so common, especially for women, what are we supposed to do when this negative feeling strikes?

Keep reading below to find out 5 strategies you can use to combat Imposter Syndrome next time it pops up in your life.

Here are 5 super simple strategies you can use to release Imposter Syndrome when it creeps up. 
⠀⠀
1.Let it Out
When you start to feel Imposter Syndrome coming on, talk about it with someone you trust like a friend, family member, or coach. Brene Brown, author of The Gifts of Imperfection and Rising Strong, says that the very best thing you can do in a “shame attack” is to have the courage to reach out.

Talking about your feelings neutralizes the negative charge and power they have over you. Think about a boiling pot. When you keep the lid on, the pressure builds up and eventually causes an explosion. When you remove the lid the pressure dissipates. Same with your shame.

This is one of the many reasons I include UNLIMITED Whatsapp coaching in between sessions for my clients. This allows them to reach out to me when they are having a hard time so that I can remind them how amazing they are, or in this case, all the reason why they are not a fraud, so they can move on with their lives in a positive direction MUCH quicker than they would do alone.

2. Remember The Spotlight Affect 
Sometimes when Imposter Syndrome creeps up it is because we feel judged. When you feel judged or like everyone is critiquing your every move in business, on social media, or in life you have to remember The Spotlight Affect. 

According to a study published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, most of us considerably OVERESTIMATE how much attention or “spotlighting” people are placing on us. This is thought to happen because our brain perceives ourselves as the center of our own world, therefore we have a tendency to perceive our own actions, thoughts, and words to loom much larger than other people’s actions, thoughts, and words.  

In this study, the researchers were able to determine that we tend to overestimate judgments and criticisms by more than 50%! So next time you are feeling judged ask yourself if you are actually being judged or if it’s really just The Spotlight Affect in action.

3. Flip your Focus
Now that you understand the science behind The Spotlight Affect you can understand how flipping your attention from yourself and over to something else like, how you can help others or what you can do to grow your business, can help to free you from Imposter Syndrome.

It can be so easy to accidentally have a single focus on ourselves and how awful we are. When we flip that focus onto something positive, we are able to break the looping negative thoughts that accompany Imposter Syndrome. 

4. Focus on Your Successes & What You Are Grateful For
Here’s the truth, your mind is not on your side, and this is why when Imposter Syndrome pops we focus on what we lack and who you aren’t instead of on who we are and what we have, let me explain.

It was very important for our prehistoric ancestors to focus on the lions, tigers, and bears that could eat them or the food that would be lacking next season. In other words, their survival was dependent on their brain focusing on LACK and LIMITATION and since it takes 1,000’s of years for the human species to evolve, your brain is still wired to focus on the negative, even though these threats to your survival no longer exist in the modern world.

This is why it is so important for you to really internalize and fully feel the gratitude of your successes rather than focusing on your failures. CLICK HERE to read a blog post I wrote detailing the amazing science-based benefits that come with practicing gratitude. It's pretty amazing. 

5. Listen To Positive Affirmation Tracks
Listening to positive affirmation tracks is a super easy thing you can do to rewire the thoughts and beliefs you carry in your mind. Imposture Syndrome happens because we subconsciously carry a belief about ourselves that we are not good, enough, smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough... FILL IN THE BLANK enough. Listening to positive affirmation tracks allows you to rewrite and replace these beliefs with positive ones. 

At first, when you begin to listen to positive affirmations, your brain might doubt what it hears is true. This is because the wiring in the brain hasn't been reset yet. The word “gratitude” has a number of different meanings, however, a practical definition is: The appreciation of what is valuable and meaningful to oneself; it is a general state of thankfulness and/or appreciation. 
 

  1. Many studies have shown that consciously focusing on your blessings, rather than what you lack, can have both emotional and interpersonal benefits. One study found that having a grateful outlook not only improves well-being but it also enhances mood creating a positive mood.  
     

  2. A scientist who studied over 1,000 people from ages 8 to 80 found that simply keeping a gratitude journal can have a positive impact on many areas of life with subjects consistently reporting the following benefits: 

Physical

•    Stronger immune systems
•    Less bothered by aches and pains
•    Lower blood pressure
•    Exercise more and take better care of their health
•    Sleep longer and feel more refreshed upon waking

Psychological
•    Higher levels of positive emotions
•    More alert, alive, and awake
•    More joy and pleasure
•    More optimism and happiness

Social
•    More helpful, generous, and compassionate
•    More forgiving
•    More outgoing
•    Feel less lonely and isolated.

Pretty freaking cool right???

All you have to do to receive all of the benefits listed above is list 5-10 things you are grateful for once or twice a day. You can do this in a digital notepad or voice memo app on your phone, or you can write them out by hand in a journal.

Want to be Happier & More Productive in 2019? Follow These Simple Steps.

Happy 2019!

Did you know that a whopping 80% of New Years Resolutions fail by the first week of February? 

The reason so many people fail is usually because their goals are too ambitious...like never eating sugar again, being completely organized, losing 50 pounds, or going to the gym every day. 

These types of goals are just simply too hard for most people to stick to and require too much willpower to sustain. CLICK HERE to watch a video where I explain why willpower alone will never get you to your goals.

So if these big ambitious resolutions don't work, what does?

There are 2 main reasons people make resolutions are:

  1. They want to be happier 

  2. They want to be more productive

Believe it or not, making smaller sustainable changes, is a much better way to increase your productivity and happiness.

So how do you do that?

Keep reading below to find out my 6 Simple Steps to create BIG results in 2019.

Here are 6 Simple Steps you can use to make 2019 your best year yet. 

Step 1: Clearly Define Your Goals
This step is important because it gives your brain a very specific action to aim for. So for example, instead of giving your diet a complete overhaul (setting yourself up for failure) make the smaller, more specific commitment to drink more water daily. This gives your brain something "bite-sized" to focus on rather than something overwhelming. And since the goal is clearly defined, your brain will know exactly when you have accomplished it. This leads to a boost in self-confidence and self-esteem. 

Step 2: Make Sure Your Goal Is Measurable
So instead of just saying you are going to drink more water daily, give an exact amount of water you will drink. Better yet, you can buy a special container to hold the specific amount of water so you know when you have reached your goal. Measuring is the best way to track your progress and results. It is also yet another way to boost your self-confidence and self-esteem. 

Step 3: Get An Accountability Partner (Or Better Yet, A Coach)
There is so much science showing the benefit of having an accountability partner or coach when it comes to achieving your goals. Accountability can be electronic like an app to track your progress or an alarm to remind you to drink every hour. Even better your accountability can come from a real-life human.

Accountability is so important to success all my coaching packages include unlimited Whatsapp coaching in between sessions so I can make sure I am there to support my clients every single day.

Step 4: Habit Stack For Ease
Find ways to incorporate your new habit into habits you already have. This is also known as “habit stacking.” For example, if you are an avid coffee drinker you can start to drink 20 oz of water in the morning before you have your first cup. Stacking a new habit onto an already well-established one like drinking your morning coffee makes it much easier to stick to the new goal. 

Step 5: Make It Easy On Yourself
The best thing you can do to ensure your success is to remove barriers. So for example, if your goal is to go to the gym at 5 am you can make it easier on yourself by sleeping in your gym clothes and having your shoes, socks, water, and gym bag ready to go by the door. You can also add in barriers to make things easier. For example, you can put your alarm across the room to make a barrier between you and the snooze button. 

Step 6: Delete Soul-Crushers and Debbie Downers (Bring In The Soulmates)
This one is probably the most important step of them all. Just as it is important to declutter your home, closet, and office, it is also important to declutter your life. Are there people in your life who have a tendency to bring you down? It is important to take an inventory of the people in your life and then ask yourself this question, "Who can I count on and who do I need to count out?"

After you determine who makes the cut and who doesn't, then you can figure out who you need to bring into your life to help you achieve your goals. I call these people soulmates. This is why I call my free consultation sessions Soulmate Sessions. These are the people who throw fuel on the fire of your dreams instead of on your fears. 

BONUS STEP:
Download this free positive affirmations track to help drown out all the negativity your brain is flooded with every day. Make sure to listen to it several times a week (daily if possible) and watch your world change. 

….and that’s it!

As you can see, these strategies are small and easy to implement. That also means they are easy to stick to and when it comes to reaching your goals, consistency is key.

The bottom line is, Small Changes = Big Impact! You know what’s cool about that? If you keep applying these 6 simple steps all year long, by the time 2020 rolls around, you’ll be a completely different—and more productive and happier person.

You know that feeling you get when you go to a networking event or when you are around a bunch of people you don't know?

Like you have to prepare a synopsis of all the amazing things you are doing in business and in life?

I used to feel like this all the time. 

Like I had to be so INTERESTING to be worthy. 

It was like I thought I had to EARN my place in the world. 

This put sooooo much pressure on me when I would go to networking events or just out in public in general. Especially when I had severe social anxiety. 

Now I understand that, in social situations, it is so much better to be INTERESTED rather than INTERESTING.

When you approach people with a smile and genuine heartfelt interest...in them, what they do, what they love, what their hopes wishes and dreams are...

It also allows the other person to let their light shine. This feels really good to both people. Win/Win!

This also releases the pressure of feeling the need to "perform" or "be on show" by telling everyone about yourself. 

This is the quickest way for you to build massive rapport with people too which is an amazing skill to have in business and in life. 

Finally, it is also important for me to point out that you were BORN WORTHY. You do not have to prove yourself to anyone. 

Simply being there, with the beautiful light and love you bring to the room, is enough to "earn" your place in the world.

What THE NESSIE HUNTER taught me about belief

Meeting the "Nessie Hunter" (I'll get to that in a moment!) really made me think... 

Beliefs are funny things, aren't they?

To be honest, beliefs are actually something I think about a lot.

One of the main features of my coaching is guiding my clients to question their beliefs about what is possible for them in their lives. 

We question beliefs like...

  • I am not good at this or that.

  • I will always be broke.

  • I am not worthy.

  • I am not beautiful.

  • I will always struggle.

  • I am an anxious person.

  • I'm not good enough.

  • I am not smart enough.

  • That will take too long.

  • I don't do well with people.

  • I'm not good on camera.

  • Success is for others

  • I'm too fat, too old, too *fill in the blank*

  • The list goes on and on, and on, and on!

These outdated negative beliefs are what hold people back from greatness in so many ways. The bottom line is that our beliefs create our reality. 

I had a big lesson on the power of belief a few weeks ago in Scotland when I met...

THE NESSIE HUNTER

Steve Feltham has been hunting full time for the Loch Ness Monster since 1991. 

That is 27 years!! Talk about dedication!

This guy gave up his whole entire life to live in a dinky RV right on the banks of the freezing cold Loch (see my video to see what this looks like first hand) because his belief in Nessie is so strong. 

Scotland is beautiful and so is Loch Ness, however, living in a tiny RV in this harsh environment is no walk in the park! He has to be freezing and lonely. 

Now, imagine what would be possible in your life if you had unshakable belief and faith in what you are capable of? You'd be unstoppable! 

Now let's flip it. 

What beliefs are you holding onto and putting so much faith and trust in that are actually NOT TRUE AT ALL? 

Are they keeping you stuck in a cold, harsh, lonely environment? 

What if you decided to change your mind?

What if you decided to believe the opposite?

What if you decided to make a different choice?

How would your world change?

If our beliefs create our reality, what reality are you creating?

Pretty interesting food for thought isn't it. :)

I STAY IN CASTLES AND TRAVEL THE WORLD HERE'S HOW YOU CAN TOO

I am back in Chester, England now, but exactly one week ago today I left for Scotland to go on the most amazing adventure. 

To say Scotland is magical is a total understatement. It is an absolute dream.

We spent most of our time in the Highlands, at the very top of the country. This meant I had little to no cell service for most of the trip. 

Which gave me a lot of time to reflect.

I found myself most often reflecting upon how completely different my life is now than it was 3, 5, 10 years ago. 

Talk about a 180-degree shift!! It's actually mindblowing.

I went from being an anxiety-ridden (too scared to leave my house!), self-conscious, negative, broke, single girl who didn't think she deserved big love and would never accomplish anything to... 

Traveling the world with the love of my life, making my way through airports and train stations with complete ease, owning my own business, working from my laptop helping people live a life they truly love, giving presentations on stages to large groups and to huge companies, all with complete confidence faith and trust. 

Want to know how I did it?

  • I changed my mind about what was possible for me and what I could accomplish in my life. 

  • I changed my beliefs, my thoughts, and my self-talk from negative to positive. 

  • I invited in infinite possibilities.

  • I hired a coach. 

  • I surrounded myself with mentors and high vibe people. 

  • I gave myself permission to evolve and grow.

  • I decided enough was enough, put my foot down, and took major action to change my life. 

Was it easy? No

Was it worth it? 100% YES. 

Is this life available to everyone? I believe with all my heart, it is. 

If I can turn my life around, you can too. I believe this so much I have dedicated my life to helping others live a life they truly love, just like I have. 

Let me give you a quick pep talk Queen... 

  • You can do it.

  • You are worth it.

  • You were meant to receive greatly in all ways. 

  • You are a divine being. 

  • Your beauty is immeasurable. 

  • You were put on this earth to do great things. 

I would go on but I have a tour of a Medieval Cathedral to go on about 10 minutes. ;)

How to Overcome Social Anxiety

So, you know how there are some people who can walk into a room full of strangers (by themselves!) with full confidence? Able to strike up a conversation with anyone?

While others can hardly say hello to the mailman they've had for 10 years, let alone a room full of strangers.

For the latter, this uncomfortable "shyness" only gets worse in situations where they feel on display or when in group settings, like a workout class or a networking event.

For some people (like me!), this "shyness" can turn into debilitating social anxiety.

Can you believe I couldn't even leave my house at one point?

If the fear of stepping out into social situations is holding you back from doing great things in the world, please know, you are not alone. Far from it. 

The truth is, over 15 million people suffer with social anxiety in the U.S. alone, making it extremely common.

So what is social anxiety anyway?

People with social anxiety usually experience distress when:

  • They're introduced to new people

  • They feel teased or criticized (which feels as though is happening ALL THE TIME even when it's not.)

  • They're the center of attention (I used to hate this so much!)

  • Being watched while doing something (cringe!)

  • Meeting authority figures or anyone perceived as "important"

  • Most social encounters, especially with strangers

  • Going around the room (or table) in a circle and having to say something (more cringing!)

  • Interpersonal relationships (romantic, business, and friendships can all cause discomfort)

Social anxiety is, in a very small nutshell, the fear of being negatively judged by others.

This perceived judgment (which most of the time IS NOT REAL, watch the video for more on this) leads to feelings of inadequacy, inferiority, self-consciousness, embarrassment, humiliation, and sometimes even depression.

Here's the cool part, if I have been able to heal myself of this, you can too. It took my many years to figure out how to get a handle on, it and what to do to combat it. 

Below are the 4 main strategies I used to leave social anxiety in the dust (much more on all of these in the video):

  • Practice self-love and self-worth

    • When you truly love yourself and understand how worthy you are you feel comfortable anyplace, around anyone. YOU ARE A QUEEN. 

  • Release judgments of self AND others

    • The more we judge ourselves and others, the more we feel judged. Period. 

  • Get help

    • Whether it is a therapist or a coach, it is important to get help when the going gets tough. Remember, you are not alone. 

  • Finally understand you have some important gifts to set-forth in the world

    • I truly believe that each and every one of us was brought here to earth for a very specific and divine reason. It is your job to figure out what that is and to then confidently step out into the world and let it rip! (this is my favorite thing to help women do.)

The bottom line is.... you are supposed to feel comfortable and confident anyplace, anywhere, anytime and around anyone.

If you don't, that just means there are some things you need to take a closer look at. 

If I can do it, you can do it. yay!

Based on the number of memes I've seen on the internet (millions!) I am guessing you have heard the saying, "Feel the fear and do it anyway." many, many times.

For years I believe this saying was 100% true.

I mean, after living with severe anxiety for over 20 years, the sheer volume of times I had to push through fear in order to do the things I knew I was meant to do like, Facebook Lives, Podcasts, public speaking, Youtube videos, putting on events and leading live guided meditations....
